Can I study overseas as part of my course?
Through the Student Exchange program you can complete part of your study overseas and receive credit towards your degree at UTS.
The Institute for International Studies administers the UTS Exchange program so you should check out their website.
As well as the Exchange Program all of our undergraduate degrees can be combined with International Studies.
Students in the combined degree with International Studies complete In-Country Study where they spend two full semesters studying overseas.
The Master of Arts in International Studies also has an In-Country study component which requires students to study overseas for one semester.
Can I change from full-time to part-time study?
When a student's enrolment in a semester is less than 18 credit points worth of subjects, the student's load for that semester is considered to be a part-time load.
Conversely a student's load is considered to be a full-time load when the enrolment in the semester is 18 credit points or more.
Students who commence a semester with a full-time enrolment load may withdraw from subjects up to the census date for that semester.
Students are required to complete course requirements within an approved maximum time limit.
The maximum time to complete a course is generally calculated as no more than (50) per cent longer than the normal completion time for the course.
Can I study at another university and have the subjects credited to my current UTS degree?
Current UTS students can apply to undertake Concurrent Study (concurrent study application form).
Approval for Concurrent Study means that a UTS student is approved to study particular subjects at another institution and on successful completion of this study, credit will be awarded towards their UTS degree.
This credit may be in form of Unspecified Credit or Subject Exemption(s) - depending on the approval received when the Concurrent Study Application is originally assessed.
Students approved for Concurrent Study by UTS must also make formal application to the University at which they wish to study.
On successful completion of Concurrent Study it is the student's responsibility to submit the completed form - Subject Exemption application for Concurrent Study to UTS with your official transcript (original or certified copy).
I am a current student how do I apply for Leave
You must apply for leave using the Leave of Absence Application.
Leave of Absence may be approved if you have completed and passed at least one subject in a course and where the application is made before the applicable Census date for the semester.
Census dates for each semester (meaning the last day to withdraw from subjects without financial penalty) are published each year in the online handbook.
How do I access UTS online?
UTSOnline is a Teaching/Learning tool used in many subjects - it is NOT the official enrolment system of the University.
Not all UTS subjects make use of UTSOnline.
The UTSOnline website allows you to check whether or not a subject uses it.
To log onto the UTSOnline website you will need your student ID and UTS password.
One of my subjects is not listed on UTS online, how do I fix this?
Not all UTS subjects make use of UTSOnline so you must firstly check that the particular subject is using it for the semester - this can be done by clicking on the link to check "Available Courses" - this link is found in the list on the left hand side of the webpage.
If the subject you are enrolled into is using UTSOnline and you have allowed 24 hours from your actual time of enrolment, then you should email your subject coordinator to ask them to add you manually.
The IT Helpdesk can assist you with any technical issues you may be experiencing.
How do I change the class I am in for a particular subject?
Up until the 2nd week of each semester and where class space permits, students may amend their class registration from one class to another using "My Subject Activities".
Students can log onto My Subject Activities from the "One Stop Student Administration" website.
Can I do an additional subject in my course?
Students are not permitted to undertake additional subjects within their course.
If a student wishes to enrol in a subject which is additional to their course requirements they may apply to enrol into the subject as a Non Award study.
Can I do an additional subject in the semester? Can I study more than the normal full-time load?
A normal full-time load for HSS students is 24 credit points (24cp).
Web enrolment will permit students to enrol themselves into subjects up to 28cp.
Occasionally students may request to enrol into an additional subject in the semester up to 32cp.
Requests to exceed credit points can be made using E-Request.
Exceed credit point requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis taking into account the reason, the student's academic record and class place availability.
Can I do a subject which is not on my study plan?
A student's study plan reflects the normal completion requirements for their course.
Students can only web enrol into subjects which are offered on their study plan.
Where a course allows free elective choice, for example within our undergraduate degrees, students may use E-request to add a subject to their study plan from outside the normal HSS subject list.
Students web-enrolling into these electives will be subject to the normal constraints relating to prerequisites and class place availability.
What is concurrent study? How do I apply?
Current UTS students can apply to undertake Concurrent Study.
Students approved for Concurrent Study by UTS must also make formal application to the University at which they wish to study
On successful completion of Concurrent Study it is the student's responsibility to submit the completed form - Subject Exemption application for Concurrent Study - to UTS with your official transcript (original or certified copy)
Refer to the General Information and Instructions included on the "Concurrent Study Application ".
Can I go on Exchange?
The Institute for International Studies administers the UTS Exchange program so you should check out their website.
Undergraduate students should have completed at least two semesters of their course before going on Exchange but planning and applying can start earlier.
It may also be possible for Postgraduate students studying Graduate Diplomas and Masters courses to apply for a semester of Exchange.
I am going to do some work experience, how do I get insurance?
To organise Insurance Cover for work experience and site visits please follow the procedures as advised on the UTS website.
When you have downloaded and completed the indemnity form you must organise with the Faculty Office (Building 2 Level 7) to have your form authorised by Chris Bradshaw (Management Information and Services Manager).
