Undergraduate
I am studying at another university, can I transfer to UTS?
Students do not "transfer" between universities, however it is possible to move to UTS by applying in the usual way through the University Admission Centre (UAC) as a non-current school leaver.
There is no mid-year intake for HSS undergraduate courses - applications will be for the commencement of the year.
If your application is successful and you are offered a place you should then apply for exemptions (Recognition of Prior Learning -RPL) based on the study you have successfully completed in your previous course. The amount of RPL granted to you will depend on how closely your previous course is aligned to your new UTS course and usually only up to a maximum of one-third of the credit points required to complete your new UTS course.
How do I apply as a mature age student?
Mature age applicants come under the more general category of Non-Year 12 Applicants.
You are a Non-Year 12 Applicants if you are not completing your HSC at school or TAFE in the current year.
You will apply through the University Admission Centre (UAC) carefully following the instructions for Non-Year 12 Applicants as advised in the UAC guide.
The UAC Guide will be available in early August - this can be purchased from newsagents or accessed online through the UAC website.
I am doing my HSC this year how do I apply for an HSS course?
Australian and New Zealand Citizens, Permanent Residents and Holders of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa must apply through the University Admission Centre (UAC).
See the UAC Guide available in August for all details including application closing dates.
This guide will be available in early august - this can be purchased from newsagents or accessed online through the UAC website.
Year 12 applicants can apply to UAC using either Apply-By-Web or Apply-By-Telephone.
Places will be offered based on the University Admissions Index (UAI) you are awarded.
What will the UAI be for the next intake?
Noone can predict UAIs for the next intake just as you cannot predict the UAI you will receive.
You should use the summary of previous UAIs as a guide only - from this you will see that UAI's can move up and down.
Because of the possibility that a UAI may move up or down from the previous year, you should not try to predict whether you will make the cut-off or not but rather enter the course you would most prefer to do followed by your next preference and so on up to a maximum of nine courses.
I do not have a UAI can I still apply for an undergraduate course?
If you are over 20 at 1 March, and have no Year 12 or tertiary/post secondary qualifiactions you may apply on the basis of the special Tertiary Admissions Test (Multiple Choice version).
I have just been offered a place in a new undergraduate course, can I defer?
The term Deferment as used in the UAC Guide means that you have received an offer to enrol in an undergraduate course but you have been given permission to delay the start of the course until the next intake. For HSS undergraduate courses this will mean deferring commencement to the start of the following year because HSS does not have a midyear intake. Once you have been admitted into a course it is then too late to Defer your offer, so you must carefully follow the instructions on applying for deferment which will be included in your offer from UAC. It is also extremely important that you follow the procedure on how and when to re-apply for your deferred course.
UTS uses the term Leave of Absence to mean a period of leave which may be approved after a student has completed and passed at least one subject in a course. See Applying for Leave.
When is the closing date for undergraduate applications?
HSS does not have a midyear intake for its undergraduate courses.
For closing dates for applications, please refer to the UAC Guide when available in August.

High achieving students who have completed the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree at UTS as well as students from other universities who have completed an equivalent three-year undergraduate degree are eligible to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication.
This course is offered on a one-year full-time basis commencing in the Autumn semester (Semester 1) of each year with no mid year intake.
How do I apply for Honours?
Applicants to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication apply by direct application to UTS.
I have a degree from another university. Can I apply for Honours in an HSS course?

Please see further information on our Honours Program, including details on how to apply.
Postgraduate
What are the entry requirements for postgraduate study in HSS courses?
Within each program, courses may be offered at the level of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Master's degree. Applicants can be made an offer if they possess a Bachelor's degree, Masters degree, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate. If applicants do not formally meet these requirements for an offer, they must submit a Personal Statement and a Curriculum Vitae.
How do I apply for postgraduate (coursework) study?
All applications for HSS postgraduate courses must be submitted through the University Admission Centre (UAC) using an online process.
Postgraduate applications for HSS courses requiring a compulsory Personal Statement (approx. 500 words) and Curriculum Vitae must be submitted directly to UTS using an online process.
The Master of Arts in Creative Writing and the Master of Arts in Media Production have further supplementary requirements which are a compulsory part of the application - see details in "How to Apply (including submission of Personal Statement)".
What should I put in my personal statement?
Your Personal Statement should explain (in approximately 500 words) why you wish to study the course you are applying.
When is the closing date for postgraduate applications?
Please refer to UTS Admissions web site for the closing date.
I have just been offered a place in a new postgraduate course, can I defer?
If you are offered a place in a postgraduate course you cannot defer this offer - you will therefore need to reapply for the course when you are ready to commence your studies.
If your original application was for an Autumn commencement you may reactivate your UAC application for Spring of the same academic year - in order for such an application to be considered all you need to do is change your UAC course code to reflect the code for Spring.
All other cases will require a new UAC application.
Other admission questions
Can I study an HSS course by distance study?
No, HSS courses and subjects are only offered with an internal attendance mode - this means that students will be required to attend all classes at UTS
I am a new student, how do I accept my offer?

The Getting Started Website will provide you with all of the information you will need as a new student.
