Research forums and seminars

Research and Practice Seminar Series

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Series runs a seminar series which aims to bring together people from across the Faculty interested in exploring the interface between professional and creative practice, reflexivity, research theory and methodology.

Location: CB06.04.05

Time: 8am - 9.30am (discussion may continue until 10am if attendees wish).

Audience: All postgraduates, HSS staff and all others interested in lively debate and discussion about the changing nature of academic research and research in creative and professional fields of practice.

HSS Advanced Research Seminars Program

Location: Usually in room CB02.7065 but occasionally in room CB02.7005 or elsewhere. Please note rooms changes in your diaries

Date and time: To be held 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month between 4-6pm.

Audience: Compulsory for all new research students in 2007. Continuing Research Degree students and staff very welcome to attend.

HSS Postgraduate 'Reading Group'

The HSS PG Reading provides an opportunity to meet with fellow post-grads, exchange ideas, become part of the intellectual and social culture of UTS. It is a student run forum at which students present in a comfortable and always responsive environment.

Location: Building 3 (Bon Marche), level 4, room 3.04.11

Date and time: every 3rd Wednesday of the month 5-7pm

Audience: All Humanities and Social Science Research Students - new and maturing - are very welcome

ACIJ Research Seminars

Terrorism in the Philippines, the scars of Woomera, the travesty of Australian foreign aid and journalism in a spacial context.

All of the above will be discussed in depth as the ACIJ presents a series of seminars looking at the investigative journalism and academic research the Centre currently supports.

Location: UTS in the Bon Marche Building (Building 3) level 5 room 502 (near the ACIJ).

Time: 4pm

Audience: All welcome.

Ideas in Action seminar series

Ideas in Action is a monthly seminar series, organised by the Social Inquiry area. Its focus is the use of ideas from the humanities and social sciences to engage with issues and problems in the real world. In 2007 the series invites researchers and practitioners from outside UTS to discuss their work in conversation with a Social Inquiry area scholar, and then engage in dialogue with the audience.

Location: To be advised each month

Time: usually 5pm on the fourth Friday of each month (during teaching semester)

Audience: All welcome
