"When the present swallows your past, and sadness devours your future, you are left with the taste of other people’s freedom"
The Spare Room is a 9.5 minute abstract expressionist drama about the emotional state of a woman locked up in an Australian detention centre. The film explores the reality of a refugee who has lost hope, and can only bare the injustices of detention by escaping into the abstract projections of her mind. Through her projected emotions, we experience the anger, sorrow and grief she cannot express within the confines of her razor wire reality. The Spare Room is a poetically sad portrayal of the moments that undermine freedom.
