Australian Wetlands

'Learning by doing' within a real world framework is an underlying principle in the subject 57084 Information Architecture and Design. This is evident in the final project for web design, requiring user analyses based on scenario and persona development.

In this case, the students chose the project to design a web site about Australian wetlands for the Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Heritage. Here was their brief:

To create an information-rich web site to be publicly available on the Internet. The content must be suitable for a wide variety of audiences who wish to know about the department’s activities in this area, and should include information about policy, planning, management, economics, education, and flora & fauna preservation. The website must comply with accessibility and metadata guidelines for all Australian government public websites.

As this project was team-based, the three students, LiJun Zhang, Shang Shang Wang and Louise Jackson-Moore had to scope, design and document the proposal; identify tasks and roles, do the research, plan the architecture, and implement the design.
